Comments

Paul,

I get the e-mails too. I can always tell they are coming. I can see on my log that someone went from your Kohl's post to mine annd then WHAM! Here comes the e-mail.

If my employees thought so little of me, my customers and my store, I would just close them up. Why bother?

Have you gotten that insult yet? Seems like it's not far off in the coming from the level of retorts I'm reading above... ;) ;)

You know what I find funny? The fact that you continue to try to get your name "out there" by reliving something that happened 7 months ago. What's wrong Paul? Did the buzz finally die and so you had to recap the whole debacle so that your name appeared again on the front page of searches on Kohls and Google Alerts about Kohls? I also find it funny that in this recap you didn't include some of the comments that customers had left praising their local Kohls. That wouldn't help your story out would it? Well, here's something new for you. Check out who Forbes is interviewing as one of it's Top 100 companies to work for. That's right, Kohls employees. When you own almost 900 stores there are going to be issues on some level. I find it funny that employees complain about the pay when they are told when the job offer is being made exactly how much they will be paid. Also, check out which company's stock is constantly rising. Yup, you guessed it. Kohls. And with the new Vera Wang line debuting this Fall it will only get better. We will have to wait and see how long you actually leave this comment up since I guess you were too insulted by someone making a strong argument against you to leave my last comment up.

This is all great stuff. But...
Between my wife and me we have nearly forty years retail experience. All my experience has been in big box and her's in mostly boutique retail. I currently work as a store manager for Kohl's but can tell you these comments could be made about most any retailer and by most any retail associate. While it is true that Kohl's does seem to be tighter on the payroll than some, I have cetainly run stores with less.
My favorite comments are the one's that suggest the store management is somehow in control of issues such as payroll, policy and operations. We are just as much subject to the corporate office as anyone else in the store. The only difference is we have decided to be accountable to the district, region, territory and corporate officers.
In most cases you wind up feeling like a jack ass in a hail storm any time someone visits your store or evaluates your performance. You just have to stand there and take it.
One benefit all this may bring to those who have never worked it is people may come to understand retail is a tough business. For that matter, any job in the service industry is tough, and some days much more so than others.

I also work as a store manager in retail..I have done so for over 10 years these comments can be said for any major retail company..i have run 3000sq ft-50,000sqft stores and they are all under staffed, not clean, customers are rude but this is retail if youdont like it leave and try to find something else..... I like Khols and there product.....The store was dirty because some of the people that are writting these negative reviews were the same people working at this store or ones like it...these people are the issues in the store that make it like this...not the customers and I do blam the managers for not giving all of these assocaites the hard boot in the butt...I know I would....

Looks like any store after Christmas time. I love how you picked the busiest time of the year to complain about the mess. Now if you complained about the mess in the middle of say May, and it still looked like that- then I'd be worried.

I've worked in retail for three years. They don't pay their employees enough to deal with that [quite literally] crap. Seriously, who cares about that mess when they're getting paid 7.25 an hour.

Now if only customers decided to put things back on hangers and hang them up- the world would be a better place. Instead, customers [most likely people like you] just added to the pile and made trite comments about how the place looked.

The Kohl's I work at is amazingly pristine. We have good management and they actually do what they're suppose to. SHOCKER! I just wish you didn't make your blog seem like the entire Kohl's chain is like that one store.

Oh, here's an idea. The next time you see a horribly messy store don't bring your camera - bring a job application.

I work on overnight.. And we work our butts off to get the truck unloaded.. we always do though.. well morning crew that comes in never finishes.. we're always short on uboats n gray carts so it's always up to us to put shit out. It's ridiculous.. so if it's a mess it's b/c of slack ass employees.. and might I say they practice that "yes you can" policy but dont even go by it. My husband found a shirt on the clearance rack when he went to purchase it the damn girl went to the rack just to make sure. I was like wtf! And the management.. they're so nice n friendly to you at orientation but when you start working there they are fucking snotty ass fakers! Stuck up as hell and think they're better b/c of their position. I hate that shit. My overnight manager also shows favortizm.. I also hate that.. so as you can see I hate my job.. so I will probably be puttin in my notice asap. I wouldn't work for them.. how many stores do they have nationwide and they can only start you off in the $7. range.. phsssh they should start you with your experience! Cheap ass company! Oh and the clearance is all a rip off. I bet anything that what they pay for it is what they give it to you for clearance.. cuz the market price is WAY too high.. they just make it look like you getting a deal by puttin up clearance signs.

Who are anyone of you to point fingers. I have worked at kohls for three years and have never hated people more in my life. It isnt just the shoppers... and it isnt just the associates. Honestly it is both. Im not perfect by all means but I work hard. But I do have to say that Management is aweful. They are nice and friendly but the majority are just plain lazy. They pawn off training and doing all their endless tasks on people like me who are never even trained in. Why? So they can sit on there ass in the office and do nothing. Yeah theres paper work and all the behind the sense stuff... But if they can bitch that we arent doing enough or doing it right maybe they should get off there ass and train us and show us that they even know how!!! Also they lack comunication skills so badly.. that not even they can possibly know what they hell is going on. Then we have the associates.. ahh yes.. you guys work so hard dont you!!! Although some of you probable work very hard the rest of you dont even know what that means. Lets put this in perspective in the misses department alone for replenisment we got stuck putting like 3 carts full of 500's and 2 z-racks PLUS a six way. This was from the week and the from the previous weekend, that the associates couldnt seem to put away? (IN 5DAYS)Explain to me how 3 people in one shift got all of this done but the "hard working associates" cant get the six way at least put away?? Stop walking around with a finger in your ass and work.. the faster you put stuff away the less you have to stay when closing.. so there ya go!!! Ahh.. last but not least the customers... now not all are bad.. and honestly some make the shitty pay worth it. But on the other had you suck.. you just plan suck. Has it ever occurred to you that there isnt ever anyone one the floor because we cant keep associates working there long enough to help you and the other ones are running around endlessly trying to help you! why do you come in with a I HATE THE FUCKING WORLD attitude and then talked to me like IM a retard. LOOK we have over a million different items of everything from cloths to cookware. And I am not a department assoc. I am Replenishment who they pull because Im one of the few there long enough to even slightly have a clue. BUT I STILL CANT MEMORIZE EVERY PRICE.. we do have diff sales like 5 times a week.. also.. I dont know the department verywell all the time.. I do my best to help you.. but BRING IN THE FUCKING ADD so I have the least bit of a clue what your talking about. Also.. when you come in pick up your shit... and if you cant do that at least put it on the fucking hanger.. so we can put it away faster. You come in here and treat us like were trash and then get pissed when we have an attitude or avoid you!!! Maybe if you approched us with out sounding like a prick we would have an easier time helping you:D I was being nice one day.. I dont do the registers because I have a fear of the customers. But one day.. I was in a good mood and decided to help out.. I rang up a really nice lady with a 600 dollar purchase and .. that takes a little while to ring up so I was having a converstation with her. Then the next customer comes and is chewing my head and bitching at me about talking to her for so long.. LIKE I KNEW HER? But then I forgot to put in her % off becuase I was so nervous of her yelling already I just wanted her out! Then the shit hits the fan... Over a little less than two dollars she told me people like me shouldnt be aloud to live and that Im worthless.. because she told me so I wouldnt forget and that she was gunna get me fired.. and more!!!Did it even occur to her that I am a person.. that even though that day might have started out good.. that it doesnt mean I didnt have other shit on my mind as well.. (dating issues with the bf you have lived with for two years, also thinking I was pregnant, full time college student, and two jobs?!) SO there you have it, all people suck.. there isnt just one too blam.. the associates and managers are lazy for the most part and the customers are asshole for the most part.. People today have no morals, values, or RESCPT!!! and i do mean ALL people.

Ok, how funny is this site!! I have worked retail for over 13 years (Im really not that old - started yng) and 10 of the years was with kohls!!!! And I have to say you are all right! The customer base that shops at Kohls are slobs! Associates are lazy! if you ask me it has to do with society now-a-days!!!! When I started way back when, if a customer was shopping off of a table with folded items on it - they would try to fold it like we had it. Now they give it a toss and grab one of the same item in the same size so they have a "new item" (and yes there are people that shit and everything else in the fitting rooms) Associates would have picked up a hanger that had fallen on the floor - now they step over it and wait for someone else to pick it up. I left the company for many reasons, but I am still in retail - I love it!! I think Kohl's is like every other growing company - do more with less! But you do have to make sure your store team is productive and hold them accountable. I face challenges everyday as well as everyone else in their own careers - it doesn't matter what the challenge is it is how you fix it. Love to see everyones comments!

There are so many factors to consider when trying to lay blame on someone. There's employees, management, and unruly customers. The kohl's that I work at has a really great management team, and it makes a really big difference. I previously worked at a JCPenney that looked like a disaster area 24/7. Although, I've had some bad days at kohl's I really enjoy working there. We are one of the top credit stores, and we always have the best audits. Perhaps the employees that are unhappy should discuss the situation with the district manager or LP or even call corporate. They have these people for a reason. Instead of sitting and whining about how horrible your management is...you should do something about it. And if you're like some of the employees in the Kohl's here, I'm sure you just sit around and bitch about things and do nothing about it. Or you know, you could just quit.
